Pari’s Paperback Picks for February

Hello!  Welcome to Pari’s Paperback Picks for February. Below you will find some of my favorite books that I find myself recommending over and over again. I love books that are not just full of theory but have real techniques that I can incorporate into my life. The 3 books below fit the bill.

These are not only books I enjoyed when I was reading them for the first time, but books I go back and reference again. I hope you find them valuable too.

1 “The How of Happiness: The New Approach to Getting the Life You Want” by Sonja Lyubomirsky. Happiness means different things to different people, but we all want our own version of it.  In this book Sonja Lyubomirsky gives us science-based advice on how to increase our happiness quotient with 12 activities. That means you are sure to find one thing that you can work into your daily routine.  She also shares the neuroscience behind sustaining your happiness set point and living a more fulfilled personal and professional life.

2 Here’s an oldie, but a goodie. If you haven’t read, “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion” by Robert B. Cialdini,  PH.D. don’t wait any longer. This really is a great book.  I first read this book when I was asked to facilitate a business book club meeting for a group of software engineers.  The practical advice and seven strategies to influence others was received so well that many times the group gave up their lunch break to keep talking.    If you end up loving the book as much as we did, you could go more in-depth with Dr. Cialdini’s on-line courses available on his website- influenceatwork.com

3 My last paperback pick for the month isn’t actually a paperback, it’s a hardcover. I really have to include it because I have shared this book with more people than any other I have owned. I even had to stop loaning my copy out because somehow I never got it back and have had to repurchase it multiple times!  “Strengths Based Leadership: Great Leaders, Teams, and Why People Follow” by Tom Rath and Barry Conchie is both a book that will aid you in your leadership self-discovery and a cheat sheet for getting the most out of your team.  This book is a companion to the Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment and the actionable ideas for leveraging your strengths specifically as a leader will prove to be invaluable.
